The primary purpose of Warehouse Management Software (WMS) is
to control the movement and storage of materials within a warehouse; process
the associated transactions, including shipping and receiving; putting away and
picking. Its main objective is to provide computerized procedures to handle the
receipt of stock and returns into a warehouse facility. Another important thing
it does is managing the stock within the facility. It enables a seamless link
to order processing and logistics to a central database.
Selecting the right warehouse
management software is probably one of the hardest things to do and it is
one of the most important. The software management is a key factor in helping a
business team work smart and help keeps payroll lean and mean. One or hundreds
of email purchase orders can be sent to suppliers and stock reordering can be completely
automated with less room for errors and less rework thus saving time and
effort. The warehouse management software is flexible and can handle the needs
of the business without making any big changes. It is web enabled and can be
integrated to existing POS systems while having a comprehensive customer
intelligence capability to improve cross selling and up-selling.
The WMS can integrate into an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system or can be installed by itself. These can be very sophisticated depending on your needs and the requirements of the business.
